A private university in India has taken a very speedy action against a Professor and his six students since they are found to be involved in scientific misconduct and plagiarism. The professor was asked to resign(did so on August5) and the university revoked the PhD registration of six Scholars. Check the below link to read the university press release.

I feel very bad after reading an article, which states that India tops in plagarism, academic fraud, cheating and false research. Here is the link

What is the right action to be taken to avoid such circumstances in future and what are the steps that can be implemented in research institutions and universities to do good science in India??

Am not too sure of what has happened to this Scholar or anything in particular.
ReplyDeleteBut in my view, Science is a vast study that has many and many more branches like a tree... And what mostly happens is, one person takes many efforts like the main branch, and most others start being the sub branches... And you know why this happens? Because, of lack of ideas. We are capable of producing new results with old methods. But, we don't have the right guidance to dig and invent new ideas and methods.
As long as India focuses on practicals that follow a paper that is as much as a theory material, there would a lack for ideas, and when idea lacks, this is what continues to happen.

Ya the students lack the right guidance in learning techniques. People who are pioneers either fly abroad or bcom too busy with their research. As a result however a student is genius in theory his practical knowledge, handling skills are poor. Faculties should spend their time with students and teach them what art they acquired.Than theory classes there should be more practical classes. Further we are not able to perform so many experiments since we dont have enough fund. But we have a pressure to publish papers to uplift our CV and satisfy the supervisor.I feel such scenarios are leading to such instances. It also portrays the need of more research fund. I feel we dont hav much research facility, advanced instruments in al institutes except few in India.
The increase in research funds, conducting more practical sessions for students, free workshop/Training with a guidance of an expert and less pressure to publish papers in reputed journals would avoid falsifications in science in future.
